Continued violence has made it difficult to expand my observations of the city. I will therefore summarize the information I have successfully gathered and list a few hypotheses.

First, the languages of the departed residents of this place appear, based on street signs and available literature, to be English, Greek and Latin. This reinforces my suspicion that Discedo is an alternate universe; however, there are two moons present, the larger of which shows fewer crater marks than our own and the smaller of which is too far to make out details with the naked eye. How is it that a world physically so different from ours - indicating extremely early divergence - could have developed along such similar lines at a later date? Is it possible that these languages were brought to Discedo by other abductees from alternate worlds more similar to ours?

Alternatively, it is possible that the smaller moon is a human artifact. This still does not explain the different cratering pattern, but does suggest a world with fewer deviances from our timeline.

The scientists' abilities remain unclear; however, I am beginning to suspect that they are more technologically based than equivalent to the abilities of a Composer or an Angel. Apart from unwillingly transporting sentient beings from alternate worlds, they appear to exert no controlling influence; nor have they set any apparent rules. I intend to obtain tools and take a closer look at both the communicator and, if I can obtain one, a removed chip. As examples of the scientists' technology, they should reveal the resources available to those individuals.

Not to distract you guys from everything goin' on, but I hear there's a lab over at the school where a guy might pick up some tools. Anybody know who's runnin' it, and whether they'd mind me stoppin' by to borrow one or two?

If they're not for public use, I'd be just as happy with directions to the industrial district or any hardware shops this place might have.

But what kind? What'd you guess?

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Any kind... I guess? How many different kinds are there?

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Spiritual, supernatural, political, physical, creative, technical... There're a lot of different kinds of power, Sparky.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
There are people here without magical power.

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe... they just haven't yet awakened to it?

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so.

Though I guess anything's possible!

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If I had to guess, I'd say these are people who've gotten involved in events that make waves... the kind of waves you can see from another world.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Big changes in a person or a place - well, they make ripples. They change the world around you. If these people have the right kind of equipment, they could be detecting that.

And who better to change your world than people who've already changed their own?

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I... I agree. That makes a lot of sense.

But in a way, it's an intimidating thought, isn't it? That kind of 'power...' and so much of it from all of us.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone has the power to change inside them. The only question is whether you'll use it.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't say that's as important... but yes.

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wouldn't it be important?

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Once someone makes the decision to change - lets their horizons broaden enough for other people to impact them - they don't always have a say in how they'll change,or how much. That comes of the influences on them.

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's true. But if you set it off like that, you have to have some idea...

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I guess I really don't know.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It's always a leap of faith - a tough one.

What's impressive about this place is how many people seem willin' to take that jump.

Would you, Fuuka?

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I don't know. I'd like to think so, but... I guess I can't be sure.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Give it a try.

Your world ends at your own horizons, after all. You should expand 'em as far as they can go.

[identity profile] oneenemyleft.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I'd like to, but it's harder in practice than in theory, that's all.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know. Don't let that keep you from tryin', though.
