You guys usually have weather like this? Nothin' but rain and sleet... it's enough to get anybody down. [He looks back at the video feed, grinning.]

That said, since the weather's keepin' me in, thought I'd bug ya all with a question or two.

First, I'm tryin' ta fix up a place to stay. This place doesn't happen to've dragged in a hardware store or somethin', does it? Anyplace I could pick up some tools? Be nice ta get my hands on a bit of paint an' plaster, too.

Second thing is I've been hearin' a lot about what happened last week, and somebody told me weird things happen every other week 'round this joint. Anybody willin' to tell me stories about what they've seen when? You never know, maybe we can figure out what's comin' if we look at what's happened before.

Ah... I think they just... call to them, on the network? I'm not sure if they answer, but they can speak through these things, too, so...

[Just curious, Negi! -- not that he's gonna explain, since you're looking at him funny but not actually asking. Instead, he just smiles.]

[That's such an insult to Beat's sensibilities. He's way more sturdy than you, Spindlyman. He will go a little slower though; rain makes things slick and he really doesn't want his first week in this place marred by him busting his face open on something.]

Hmmm. I'll remember ta blame it on you if all the good buildin' stuff is gone.

[He chuckles, shrugging.] Guess there's plenty of tumbledown places to pull useful bits outa.

[Hey, as long as he's going slower, Hanekoma doesn't care how grumpy he looks. He picks his way after the kid, keeping an eye out ahead for their house.]

Figured we could just dump these out back, save the trouble of movin' em once they're all at the house.

I'm not sure what caused it but if I remember right, they were trying to reach those that trapped them here. So it drained the systems or something like that.

Might not. But they do have nests.

Hmm. [Every time he thinks he's got a handle on something, it gets more confusing. He represses a sigh.] Somebody else trapped 'em, huh? Anyone know who those guys are?

... ya mean the nests are like ovens, huh?

We know they're scientists and they were screwing around with things they shouldn't have.

Exactly. And if we can't swing that there's always baiting them to set fire to a certain area we set up.

So they trapped the Anima and the Anima are busy makin' our lives hell while they try to get at those guys. There's a karmatic misfire if I ever heard a one.

[Shaking his head, and going back to the more cheerful topic of dragons.] Sounds like you're the expert on those critters. Can ya give me any pointers on trackin' em?

[Sorry, Hanekoma, all Beat gets out is a grunt in response. Beat can't carry bricks, walk, and talk at the same time. Bad things might happen.

So he's silent for the rest of the walk, and when they finally reach the house, he skirts around to the back to drop them off there, whew'ing and rotating his arms a little, before glancing back to Hanekoma]

How you holdin' up, Coffee-man? Think you can do that again?

I could manage a couple more.

[He chuckles. Might be silly, but damned if he'll let a teenager outwork him... and he's a bit stronger than he looks, in any case.

Not as much as he ought to be. But enough for hauling bricks, sure. He smirks.] Sure you're doin' all right? You sound pretty wiped.

Jus' watch me, yo! YAAAAAAAAAAAA!

[He's taking off again, full speed. His time on the skateboard has at least given him some reflex, so he's able to move over the rubble with relative speed.

Well you know what they say about crap, it rolls down hill.

First thing is you look for scorched earth. If you can find it, there's a hunting ground around there somewhere. Enough critters in the area and you know they'll come back to it.

Ain't that the truth. [Laughing.]

So these dragons, they're the fire-breathin' kind with the big claws and wings, huh?

Pretty much. I haven't seen any signs of shapeshifting so at least you'll know them when you see'em.
